In the long run yes. Nuclear fusion could be the option to replace non-renewables like oil. It just uses water and lithiium to form helium and creates a lot of energy. We are still trying to get it working in a nice way, but if successful, then it could be a very viable solution for eradicating nasty non-renewables 🙂

Particle physics research isn’t really helping us use less products from crude oil. Particle physics is what we call “curiosity-driven research”, meaning that we aren’t directly trying to solve any problems of humanity today, we’re doing it to increase the body of knowledge created by humanity. This quest for deep knowledge about how the world works at the tiniest scales requires pushing forward the boundaries of technology, computing and engineering. These technologies invented or developed at particle physics labs then make their way into wider use outside particle physics. So we’re solving problems that will arise in the future, before they even become problems!

In a roundabout way yes but only because the work will help aspects of nuclear power and doesn’t directly use any crude oil products
