The machine we use at CERN to speed up particles, so that we can collide them at really high energies, is called the Large Hadron Collider, or LHC for short. The LHC holds the world record for the highest energy particles made by humankind!

@Meirin’s mentioned the LHC. We also work on a machine that measures the particles coming *out* of the collisions that the LHC makes, which is called the ATLAS detector. This is also huge: the size of a 5 floor building, and weighs the same as the Eiffel Tower. It’s got 100 million sensors, so we can measure particle paths and energies with incredible accuracy, 40 million times a second… wow
