If I were to win I want to bring CERN scientists to schools just like yours and help bring schools just like yours to CERN.
(CERN, by the way, is the biggest science lab in the world!).
I think it’s important for students to meet scientists face-to-face, to start establishing a personal connection with them. Then bringing students to CERN will allow them to meet even more scientists and see the huge experiments with their own eyes!
So winning would above all make me very happy, as it’d give me another reason (or excuse, depends how you look at it) to talk to students about my work. I’ve really enjoyed I’m a Scientist and talking to students about my work is my favourite bit of the job!

It would mean a lot if I won, because then my answers and chats must have helped you, or been interesting, or just silly… anyway, that you enjoyed it! So honestly, that’s the most important thing to me: I’ve really had fun and can hardly believe you’ve kept me in the running this long.

With the money I would like to follow up an idea I’ve had for a while about making 3D particle physics events available on the Web for anyone to play with. At the moment we show lots of pretty pictures, but getting your own hands on the stuff we work with has been pretty inaccessible… and I hope to play a little part in opening that up to schools in the UK. I’ve seen the others’ proposals as well, and whatever you decide it looks like something great will be done with the prize money 🙂

It would be great if I won because I would know that students have enjoyed my answers to questions and been interested in what I do and that’s why I’m here! If I won I would want to spend the prize money to try and start a project where school students could build a moving SPECT scanner out of Lego. It would be a great way to help students learn how we can image radiation in nuclear medicine and it would be fun to build!
