      I chose Geography since I really liked the physical geography side learning about volcanoes, earthquakes and natural processes.
      I chose Physical Education since I’ve tried a lot of sports in my life, and I wanted to know how human bodies were so good at sport! I’ve tried basketball, football, rugby, running, athletics, cricket, bouldering, rock climbing, kayaking, cycling..
      I chose History since we need to learn about the past to make the world a better place today and in the future.

      So I chose do to dual award science rather than just the one science GCSE. I then also chose history, art and drama. I also chose to do French which oddly enough I still use in my nuclear science research as a lot of the papers that exist in my area are from old French journals and need translating

      I chose art because I’ve always enjoyed it, statistics because you got to conduct your own research project and I thought that would be fun, psychology because I thought it would be interesting and spanish because I wanted to learn another language.

      How embarassing… I couldn’t remember and had to look it up! Maths, English, French, and Religion were our core GCSEs that couldn’t be swapped. I then chose Additional Maths, Art, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, and History. If I could, I’d have swapped French and Religion for German and Geography… but now I find that French quite useful for working in Geneva, which I never anticipated all those years ago.

      In addition to the core ones, I took french, spanish, geography, art and latin.
      The first two come in handy when I travel and want to talk to international scientists- the others weren’t so useful but I had fun and did OK so it worked out!

      I chose Geography because I had an early obsession with rocks as a child. Infact, if I hadn’t studied Materials I would have probably studied Geology. Not just because you can be called ‘Master of the Earth’ at the end of it 🙂

      I also studied History and a language.
