Question: Why is it so important to discover and research new materials

New materials can either provide us with entirely new substances that solve an existing problem or they can help us to understand what’s happening in complex environments so it makes us more informed. Plus you never know what your discovery will lead to.

@Fission Chips, take a look at the progression of F1 cars. The discovery of new materials has enabled F1 cars to get lighter and faster. Infact, material scientists managed to produce a ceramic or glass turbocharger which made F1 cars so fast that they had to be banned for safety reasons! The rewards can be huge and it is worth investigating time and effort in using the correct materials as using incorrect ones can lead to dangerous accidents or very expensive replacements.
