• Question: A moon base will also provide a very good starting point to expand out into the solar system (because of its very low gravity compared to earth's) to provide space and resources for our ever growing population what is your opinion on that? Also from the moon we can expand to mercury where we can (if we want to) disassemble the planet and create a dyson sphere. So I would like to know all of your opinions of the questions I have asked.

Hi Harrison 🙂 Great questions! I think that although the moon is closer than Mars, Mars is much more habitable. If humans were to live on the Moon, then we would lose muscle mass in our legs and body as walking about would be so easy with the lower gravity. Astronauts have to do exercise and weights in spaceships to stop this from happening! So going to the moon would mean that it would be difficult to move back to the earth or any larger mass object.

Mercury is quite close to the sun and therefore it’s pretty hot there around 500C every day! I’m not sure that this would be a nice place to live in. I’d still go for Mars, it’s cooler than earth but we can always heat it up 🙂

A dyson sphere is a very cool idea. But creating a dyson sphere completely around our sun would mean that we would be stopping all the light getting to earth and other planets we might be living on! This would make everything rather cold and dark. But a partial dyson sphere which doesn’t block the light we need is a great idea but is some way off!

Great ideas by the way, it takes imagination to come up these ideas and that’s what we need in future scientists 🙂

How do you think we could transmit the energy generated from a dyson sphere back to where we want it efficiently?

This isn’t something I’m particularly knowledgeable about but I’ll definitely go do some reading on this!

Agreed, thanks for asking some great questions here!
I think I gave my opinion on a moon base in your previous question /nuclearm19-zone/question/what-are-your-opinions-on-the-nuclear-fusion-reactor-idea-do-you-think-it-is-worth-building-a-moon-base-in-order-to-get/.
Is there a reason you’d want to skip Venus and go straight to Mercury from the Moon?
