Jobs change in subtle ways, sometimes. For example, I had three different jobs while I was at Durham University, despite being in the same office the whole time. And at Glasgow I started as a pure researcher, then got upgraded to a lecturer job, and now senior lecturer — again while in the same office, doing mostly the same stuff, working with the same people, etc. But each change of that sort brings new things: being in charge of new stuff, doing more teaching, etc. etc.

So technically I’ve been in my current job for 6 months, but I’ve been a lecturer since 2014, and at Glasgow since 2013 (although I was living in Geneva for the first 12 months of my Glasgow contract).

I’ve been doing my PhD for about 18 months, so I still have about 2 years to go!

I started my current job 7 months ago, so Iā€™m a newbie! This means everything is really exciting and fresh for me. Everyday brings new opportunities and things to do.
