That I get to create never before seen compounds. It’s very traditional sort of science to be making brand new things rather than basing your work to extend a much larger project and I find it really rewarding

Learning new things all the time, either new theories, new techniques and methods, or seeing new data for the first time. It’s a constant learning and adaptation process: I can’t imagine doing a job where it’s going to be more-or-less the same thing through your whole career.

When someone asks me a question about my work and I can see their face light up when they’ve understood my answer.

I like helping people, it’s mainly what motivates me. At work I do this by writing code into software, which I give to scientists to help run their experiments and manage their results data, it’s rewarding when I see something I’ve made making someone elses life easier.
With the reactor design I’m trying to make the reactors of the future safer and less wasteful, our design hasn’t been built yet but if it does seeing that will be very rewarding!

I think it’s really rewarding knowing that my work could play a tiny part in improving cancer therapy and potentially help lots of people
